If only there was something like this for Windows XP SP1’s annoying habit of insisting that you have no firewall/virus protection if you don’t use Norton/Mcaffe or some other major program that it knows about.
Well, personally in XP I use Norton Security… It automatically disables Windows notification for me… I do have service pack 2 though so it might make a difference… You can upgrade to service pack 2 by either going through Windows update or download from this website…
To disable notifications in sp2 do the following:
1) Open Control Panel
2) Click on Security Center
3) Click on change the way that Windows notifies me
4) Uncheck whichever ones you don’t want to be notified about
You can also try firewalls that are recognized by XP such as Zone Alarm or Comodo
Start/All Programs/Accessories/Run
Type in “msconfig” Click OK
Click Continue if you get the “User Account Control” screen
Select the “Startup tab” and remove check by Windows Defender
Click Apply
Restart your computer
Just try stopping the defender service. it worked for me.
go to computer-> manage -> service-> stope the dam service and set it to disabled instead of automatic

For antivirus you can use AVG or Avast!
Hopefully that works…

I did this, but defender still runs, giving me a startup message that says I have left msconfig in “selective” mode and must restart in “normal” mode.
